Bethany's History

1939 The Bethany Rest Home was organized in and operated at 607 7th Street South in Fargo for four years.
1942 Bethany purchased the Fargo Sanitarium at 1333 3rd Ave South and moved to that location.
1960 American Lutheran Homes, Inc. was created. Construction on the present site began.
1963 Bethany Towers I was completed.
1968 An intermediate care facility opened.
1979 Bethany Towers II was built, along with the second nursing facility building.
1986 Bethany Home Health Care was formed. Bethany Foundation was also incorporated to provide philanthropic support for Bethany Homes.
1987 The Mavis Whiting Chapel was dedicated.
1995 Cares II building undergoes major remodeling.
1997 Bethany completes construction of a memory care unit to care for residents with Alzheimer's Disease and other dementia. Administrative areas were also remodeled.
2001 Bethany purchased the former Kinder Apartments, located one block to the north of the "Bethany Block" and Renovation work prepares the building for independent living.
2003 Towers I undergoes major renovation.
2004 Towers II receives structural and operational upgrades. Bethany Home Health Care transitions to Bethany Personal Care Services.
2009 The name changed to Bethany Retirement Living. Most buildings on University Drive campus renamed.

Bethany on 42nd opened.
