Bethany Retirement Living is a Christian, non-profit organization providing personalized care to the Senior community in Fargo, North Dakota. We offer assisted living, independent living, basic care, skilled nursing, memory care, short-term rehabilitation and transitional care services.

Since our start in 1939, we have been committed to our mission statement: to provide living opportunities in a senior community shaped by Christian values. Residents can feel at ease knowing our specialized employees will work closely with their care plan – adjusting cares when needed. We continue to offer and expand with the latest technology, training and amenities that allow our residents to enjoy worry-free living where their time is respected.
Bethany Retirement Living’s two campuses were ranked at the top of the U.S. News Best Nursing Home list for the region.

1939
The Bethany Rest Home was organized in and operated at 607 7th Street South in Fargo for four years.

1942
Bethany purchased the Fargo Sanitarium at 1333 3rd Ave South and moved to that location.

1960
American Lutheran Homes, Inc. was created. Construction on the present site began at 201 S University Drive.

1963
Bethany Towers I was completed. Originally constructed as a senior housing facility, Bethany Towers I now provides licensed, Medicaid-eligible Basic Care services to 53 residents.

1967
Construction for University Skilled II building begins.

1968
Now operating as our University Skilled II facility, including units on Elmwood & Cedar Square. These Skilled care units include more private rooms and updated amenities.

1979
Bethany Towers II was constructed, originally a 96-bed senior housing facility.

1986
Bethany Home Health Care was formed and operated as Bethany Personal Care Service, providing Assisted Living to residents in Bethany Towers II (University campus). Bethany Foundation was also incorporated to provide philanthropic support for Bethany Retirement Living.

1987
The Mavis Whiting Chapel & Resident Center was dedicated. Mavis Whiting had been with Bethany for 21 years, including many years as Administrator, until her retirement in 1985.

1995
Cares II building undergoes major remodeling.

1997
Memory Care Unit now operating as Willow Lane, providing specialized services to 48 residents with Alzheimer’s Disease and other dementia. Administrative areas were also remodeled.

2003
Bethany Towers I undergoes major renovation, funded by a grant from the US Department of Housing and Urban Development.

2004
Bethany Towers II undergoes major renovation, funded by a grant from US Department of Housing and Urban Development.

2009
The name changed to Bethany Retirement Living. Most buildings on University Drive campus renamed.

2010
Bethany on 42nd opened.

2014
Skilled care addition completed at Bethany on 42nd.
Ethos Home Care formed as a partnership among Bethany Retirement Living, Eventide Senior Living Communities and Knute Nelson to provide home health services to people residing anywhere in the region.

2015
30,000 sq. feet were added to Bethany on University for housing, therapy, and resident homes.

2016
Bethany Grace Pointe is added to Bethany on 42nd as an upscale independent living community.

2017
Our home health agency became Ethos Home Care & Hospice as a new alternative for hospice care in the region is offered.

2018
A multi-year renovation and remodeling project is completed at Bethany on University, including a skilled nursing/TCU addition, the University Café, new Towers activity space and a nearly complete facelift for the entire campus.
