Bethany Auxiliary

The Bethany Retirement Living Auxiliary is a pivotal asset to the enrichment of residents’ lives. The Bethany Homes Auxiliary held its first organizational meeting on November 17th, 1964, chaired by Mrs. Stand Shafer. Thirty-Five women from area churches were present. On January 12th, 1965, Mrs. Norman Lunde of Moorhead, a member of Olivet Lutheran Church, Fargo, was elected the first Auxiliary President.

The purpose of this organization is to promote “Love in Action” for the residents. The Auxiliary assists the Volunteer Department with leisure time activities and special events. They also coordinate numerous fund raisers, such as the Coffee Shop, Gift Shop, Soup of the Day, Strawberry Fest, and Apple Fest, just to name a few.

Proceeds from these fundraising events benefit the residents of Bethany. The Annual Gift Request Program allows Bethany employees to request funding for needed items that would enhance residents’ quality of care and quality of life. Among the items the Auxiliary has been able to purchase to enhance residents’ lives are: Televisions, Popcorn Cart, Musical Instruments, Aroma Therapy Diffusers, Aviaries, Bath & Lift Scales, Worship Supplies, DVDs, Bladder Scanners, Music & Memory Supplies, Blanket Warmers, Soft Serve Machine, Portals of Prayer, and Craft & Activity Supplies.

Auxiliary meetings are held the fourth Monday of the month, six times a year. The Auxiliary is a member of the North Dakota Hospital/Home Auxiliaries of the North Dakota Healthcare Association.
