The Importance of Physical Therapy

Physical therapy is a common and tremendously helpful service for the elderly. Physical therapy can assist elderly patients with regaining function and mobility after traumatic events such as a stroke, heart attack, or fall. According to Regional Operations Director, Charlie Powell, “Physical therapists at Bethany Retirement Living work with patients to improve mobility and gain independence so they are able to return to their prior living environment.”

Patients at Bethany’s Transitional Care Units are typically transferred from the hospital to regain strength and mobility through rehabilitation. The process is streamlined to help each patient according to their needs. Powell explains, “Each patient receives an evaluation from a Physical Therapist, and with the patient’s input and goals, they develop a Plan of Care that will help them reach those goals. Physical Therapists often provide therapy in a patient’s room, in the therapy gym, and around the Bethany community.”

With the help of physical therapy, patients at each of Bethany’s locations are able to regain vital functions for independence. The process is rewarding and alters the trajectory of the patients’ future living arrangements. Powell assures, “The team at Bethany has extensive experience and has an excellent record of helping patients reach their highest potential.”
